World Brain Tumour Day
The “Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe e.V.” (German Brain Tumor Association) started this international commemoration day in the year 2000 as a tribute to all brain tumour patients and their families. It is celebrated annually on 8 June. Brain tumour is one of the deadliest diseases in Germany and brain tumour related disease is tenth leading cause of morbidity in India. The aim of commemorating this day is to draw global attention towards the disease, to encourage research into the topic and raise awareness about brain tumors. A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain. Many different types of brain tumors exist. Some brain tumors are noncancerous (benign), and some brain tumors are cancerous (malignant). Brain tumors can begin in one's brain (primary brain tumors), or cancer can begin in other parts of one's body and spread to one's brain (secondary, or metastatic, brain tumors).
